This position reports to the Senior Director of Health Sciences Simulation.
The students represent undergraduate nursing and health science programs, and healthcare professionals enrolled in variety of courses that use simulation as a component of the learning environment.
Minimum Education:
- Associate Degree. Bachelor's Degree preferred in Healthcare, Nursing, Education, Instructional Technology, or Computer Sciences or graduate of approved EMS program.
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Two years of related experience in computer technologies and software applications, education and/or clinical healthcare experience.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Minimum Certification/Licenses:
- EMT – Certificate; Paramedic Certificate / Licensure; RN Licensure; Respiratory Therapy Licensure or other healthcare professional licenses may be considered.
Essential Functions:
- Daily -20%: Supports students in the identification of their individual learning needs. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships to ensure high quality lab experiences for students and continued growth of the program.
- Daily -20%: Supports simulation audio and video equipment, recording and playback of simulation events. Troubleshoots any disruption in the computer technology communication.
- Daily -10%: Provides faculty with instructional tools and technical support to carry out simulator sessions, including setting up simulator and room, conducting a dry-run of simulation session with faculty and adjusting learning outcomes if needed prior to the simulation event.
- Daily -5%: Facilitates and maintains a respectful and professional working environment incorporating active learning and reflective thinking.
- Monthly -5%: Works with faculty in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of new courses, scenarios, simulation tools, and other educational initiatives to measure learning outcomes.
- Weekly -10%: Instructs and supports faculty in the utilization of simulator equipment, scenario development and programming, and updates related to simulation education.
- Weekly- 10%: Assists faculty with online eLearning platform (Desire to Learn / SimManager) to post student simulation assignments, pre-simulation activities and post-simulation evaluations.
- Quarterly- 5%: Recommends purchase of simulation equipment and other learning technologies that enhance the simulation experience for students and faculty.
- Monthly -2%: Serves as liaison between the simulation center and the simulation manufacturers.
- Daily -3%: Maintains data confidentiality and security. Follows departmental policies for destruction of recorded video sessions.
- Monthly- 5%: Responsible for monthly maintenance checks on high fidelity manikins and task trainers. Conducts manikin repairs unless covered by manufacturer warranty. Oversees biomedical checks on medical equipment, i.e. IV pumps, defibrillators.
- Other, as Needed- 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of a variety of computer systems, wireless networking and audio and video recording systems that integrates with manikin data for debriefing including hardware and software.
- Knowledge of web-based software and hardware for curriculum development.
- Ability to learn computer software operations and programming as it applies to simulation platforms.
- Ability to adapt to changes in program requirements and methodology.
- Ability to work with faculty to develop curriculum and train faculty on new software and hardware.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to align to a national model and work effectively in a team environment with healthcare professionals.
