Assistant/Associate Director of Dance Movement Therapy

Job Description
  • Research, recruit, develop and maintain placement sites to ensure that there are sufficient ADTA compliant placements to meet fieldwork/internship requirements for graduation
  • Develop and maintain database of current sites and placements
    • Update changes in site personnel annually


  • Coordinate student internship interview process and assignment of fieldwork placement
  • Formulate placement assignments in consultation with the Program Director
  • Manage students' clinical placements and monitor compliance of documentation
    • Maintain forms, contracts, documentation of hours, and evaluations
    • Develop placement education materials and communicate requirements to students and supervisors
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with placements through communication and site visits
    • Act as contact person for supervisors regarding issues/problems with students
    • Visit each site twice per year to troubleshoot and assess whether site continues to maintain ADTA standards for training
  • Train clinical supervisors and act as liaison between supervisors and academic program
  • Develop, with the Program Director, an annual Supervisors' Workshop
  • Provide weekly group clinical supervision for all first year students in both on-campus and off-campus sites
  • Lead weekly dance/movement therapy group
  • Act as liaison to Early Childhood Center and Riverdale Neighborhood House to provide support for student learning and to facilitate effective incorporation of dance/movement therapy into curriculum
  • Represent Sarah Lawrence College as a member of the ADTA Committee on Approval
  • Teach one (two) course per semester plus thesis

Required Qualifications
Must hold a Master’s Degree in Dance/Movement Therapy with a BC-DMT certification. Additionally, must have a minimum of five years of experience supervising dance/movement therapy students
