Position Summary: The Center for Air and Aquatic Resources Engineering and Science is seeking one Research Assistant Professor in Chemical or Environmental Engineering. This position will oversee several projects involving the use of on non-thermal plasma to treat PFAS contaminated water. The successful candidate is expected to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with other members of the group, as well as effectively interface with external partners.

General Purpose: Fundamental and applied research that supports the goals and fulfills the requirements of several projects examining PFAS water treatment.

Remote Work Days- This is a full time on Campus position with zero remote workdays.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, evaluate and improve non-thermal plasma treatment methods to remove PFAS from water.
  • Oversee several projects involving the use of on non-thermal plasma to treat PFAS contaminated water.
  • Evaluate and analyze analytical and experimental data.
  • Draft sponsor required reports on research and contracted goals.
  • Present results in meetings and conferences.
  • Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Assist PIs to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the research lab.

Essential Skills:

  • Familiar with the operation on non-thermal plasma reactors.
  • Familiar with the operation of non-thermal plasma power supplies.
  • Familiar with PFAS treatment methods for water.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work independently.
  • Ability to engage in collaborative team work.
  • Ability to safely handle high voltages, chemicals and flammable compressed gasses.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); Strong writing and editorial skills: ability to independently handle the preparation of sponsor reports and research manuscripts

Education:

Minimal Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related fields. Strong publication record.

Experience:

Minimal Experience:i) Three years’ experience using non-thermal plasma to treat PFAS containing water; ii) Demonstrated experience overseeing research projects, and iii) Demonstrated experience preparing manuscripts and assisting with sponsor required reports.
