Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Bronco One Stop is a centralized space for students to access common student services to strengthen their ability to navigate Fayetteville State University. The goal of Bronco One Stop is to enhance the student experience with the application process, academic records, financial aid, making payments, speaking with an advisor to register for classes, gaining assistance with degree planning, receiving academic support, and navigating university resources.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to execute the entire work range from standardized office support assignments to performance of administrative duties involving decision-making and judgment. The position coordinates business functions of Title III which includes travel expenditures, budget monitoring and management, and financial reports.

Description of Work Continued::

40% Budget Management:
Provides oversight and coordinates business functions of the unit, including budgetary management, purchases, travel, expenditures, and personnel-related matters. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets varied and complex records and reports and business communications. Plan, analyze and organize daily activities, data management. Interpret varied and complex policies, procedures, records, reports and business communications. Ensures expenditures and accounts are reconciled. Works with Business and Finance office to identify and correct budget discrepancies. Review and manage requisitions and purchase orders.

25% Problem Solving:
Responds to inquiries and resolves problems that arise in the office, utilizing independent judgment and applying appropriate guidelines to address or remedy the situation. Independently develop recommendations for resolutions to new issues and problems by interpreting policies and procedures.

25% Record Management:
Compiles, analyzes, and interprets varied and complex records and reports and business communications. Prepares and writes executive summaries to the Director. Prepares and writes Title III Reports (quarterly and annual), Time and Effort Reports, Steering Committee Meetings minutes, Operational Plans, business letters, and general communications.

10% Customer Service:
Interacts with internal and external individuals and groups, including senior administrators and managers of other units within the organization, representatives of other state agencies/universities, educational partners and nonprofit organizations to interpret and administer program guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge skills and abilities::

Professional Knowledge: Knowledge of program policies and procedures and technology related to assigned program area(s). Ability to interpret and apply them for clients while providing services. Knowledge of program/service guidelines demonstrated by the ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve recurring work issues. Knowledge of state and federal laws and/or regulations in assigned program area(s). Ability to determine the correct or most appropriate course(s) of action.
Program/Project Administration: Ability to administer and manage a component of a broad program or project. Ability to maintain program/project databases, schedules and reports. Ability to ensure accuracy of data. Ability to perform related administrative duties including coordination with other work units. Ability to research funding opportunities.
Consultation: Knowledge of the link between the program and the organizational strategic plan. Ability to guide and collaborate with clients to execute program activities. Ability to make decisions within the boundaries of established program policy and procedure. Ability to follow up with colleagues and resource providers to resolve issues.
Information Analysis and Decision-Making: Ability to gather, organize and analyze program information, data and/or financial information. Ability to review, examine and prepare documents. Ability to make recommendations based on the results of that information. Ability to identify, recognize and resolve problems that have established guidelines and precedents.
Communication and Marketing: Ability to establish and maintain productive and collaborative professional work relationships with clients and respond to questions within policy and procedure guidelines in assigned area(s). Ability to use concepts and language that are easy for others to understand. Ability to use active listening to assure mutual understanding through shared information and viewpoints.

Fayetteville State University (FSU) is a member of the prestigious University of North Carolina System. Situated in southeastern North Carolina, FSU prides itself in being in one of the most diverse cities in the country and neighbor to one of the nation’s largest military installations – Fort Bragg.

FSU has a rich history that serves as genesis for its current status as a leading institution of higher learning. A year after the Civil War ended, the Phillips School provided primary education to Fayetteville’s black citizens, and the Sumner School provided intermediate education for this population. The two schools were consolidated in 1869 and dedicated in April of that year as the Howard School, in honor of the Freedman’s Bureau chief General O.O. Howard. Seven prominent African-American men pooled $136 to purchase two lots for the first building that housed the Howard School. Robert Harris was named the first principal of the Howard School.

In 1877, the Howard School became not just the first public normal school for African Americans in North Carolina but also the first state-sponsored institution for the education of African-American teachers in the South. It was renamed the State Colored Normal School in Fayetteville that year, Fayetteville State Teachers College in 1939, Fayetteville State College in 1963, and Fayetteville State University in 1969.

While FSU’s roots are as a teacher education institution, it now offers nearly 70 degrees at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels. Many of the programs are accredited by the top agencies. The university’s School of Business and Economics is endorsed by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB is one of the most prestigious and rigorous accrediting bodies for business programs in higher education. Currently, less than one-third of U.S. business programs and only 15% of the world's business programs have earned AACSB accreditation. Receipt of this distinguished accreditation provides evidence that FSU’s School of Business and Economics has established itself as a leader among business schools. Additionally, the Master of Business Administration program has been cited by U.S. News and World Report and The Princeton Review as one of the best graduate business school programs in the country. The Department of Criminal Justice is accredited by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS). FSU’s criminal justice program is the only such program in North Carolina to hold ACJS certification.

FSU is rapidly becoming a center for research and technology. In spring 2010, the university, in conjunction with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, cut the ribbon on the Southeastern North Carolina Regional Microanalytical and Imaging Center. The center is home to the electron microprobe, an advanced imaging tool that magnifies objects up to 300,000 times.

FSU is a partner in the community. The institution has formulated a strong relationship with the local municipality and with civic and social organizations in the area. The institution enjoys its partnership with its military neighbors. In the coming years, as a result of Base Realignment
