Position Summary:

This incumbent is responsible for directing the maintenance and housekeeping departments at Rock Eagle 4-H Center near Eatonton, GA and will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising employees for each department. The role also assists the State 4-H Leader, their designee, and the 4-H Center Director with major maintenance planning, trouble shooting, project design, planning for scheduled maintenance, and administration of construction projects. Additional support will also be provided to the other 4-H Centers including: Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island, GA, Camp Jekyll on Jekyll Island, GA, Fortson 4-H Center near Hampton, GA, Rock Eagle 4-H Center near Eatonton, GA, Tidelands Nature Center on Jekyll Island, GA, and Wahsega 4-H Center near Dahlonega, GA.
Travel, frequent weekend and evening work, being on call at various hours, and occasional overnight travel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Possess or willingness to obtain the following certifications

  • Certified Pool Operator
  • First Aid/CPR AED
  • Pesticide Applicator License
  • Class IV Drinking Water Operator
  • Class IV Waste Water Operator
  • Underground Storage Tank Operator
  • Additional certification may be needed

Physical Demands:

Work in inclement weather, climb ladders to inspect roofs and water tower, lift 50 pounds, prolonged standing and walking. Climb into attics and maneuver in crawl spaces to determine the condition and maintenance need of buildings. Driving to perform job related duties.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Works with the Facilities Manager and Housekeeping Manager to establish cooperation, cross training, prioritization of tasks, and supervision of all employees within the maintenance and housekeeping departments at Rock Eagle 4-H Center near Eatonton, GA. Responsible for creating standards for the hiring, training, and evaluation within the two departments.

Responsible for the design and administration of small renovation and construction projects of less than $500,000 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center and support similar project at other centers.

Coordinate large renovation and large capital construction projects with the University of Georgia Office of University Architects for Rock Eagle 4-H Center.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Conduct research, seek guidance, and identify contractors/vendors as necessary to resolve major problems at Rock Eagle 4-H Center related to mechanical, plumbing, electrical, audio visual systems, vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance, water and sewer infrastructure, roads, sidewalks, curb and gutter, grounds maintenance, and commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, food service equipment, and laundry equipment. Similar support will be provided to other 4-H Centers.

Ensure that all life safety requirements are met at Rock Eagle 4-H Center including fire suppression and alarm systems. Ensure upkeep, maintenance, and security of equipment and buildings. Similar support will be provided to other 4-H Centers.
