Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the candidate will serve as the Project Manager/Research Associate for several research studies. The Project Manager/Research Associate works closely with the PI and other research staff to help develop, implement, and evaluate all phases of the process of conducting the research projects they are working on, including project startup, monitoring and reporting, and closeout. This includes the development and management of protocols, regulatory materials (including IRB), standard operating procedures; the tracking of deliverables, milestones, and timelines; data management; and the planning and reporting of analyses and progress reports. Additional responsibilities may include scheduling and coordinating meetings, conducting interviews with research participants, facilitating focus groups for research purposes, analyzing qualitative data, administering surveys, submitting manuscripts, assisting student research assistants in completing their responsibilities on the studies they are working on and other research-related tasks. The candidate will be expected to work with a high level of independence, prioritize all aspects of research activities with moderate supervision, and self-initiate suggestions and approaches to optimize the team’s research efforts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree required. Masters’ degree preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience with research project coordination or management or similar role (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively - verbally and in writing - with participants, staff, and supervisors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team members and contacts who are internal and external to the university.
  • Organizational skills to maintain records and coordinate other tasks as required.
  • Skill in speaking and writing to persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • High level of independence and reliability.
  • At least 1-year of experience in data collection, including expertise in re-contact methods and conducting qualitative interviews (preferred).
  • Experience coordinating and assisting with data collection for focus groups and 1:1 interviews (preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and relevant software programs (e.g., data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, qualitative data analysis software) such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint/Google Slides, Outlook, Dedoose, RedCap.
  • Fluent Spanish speaker preferred but not required.
  • Organizational skills to plan and schedule meetings and presentations.
  • Driver’s license and car for recruitment and/or field interviews if assigned this role in a project.

    • After 90 days, this position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee's work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position is non-unit, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees Non-Unit (Professional/or Classified) Employee Personnel Policy.
