Position Summary
The University of Alabama’s newly-commissioned UA Teaching Academy, housed in the Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education (OTIDE), is dedicated to supporting the institution’s strategic goal of providing a premier education characterized by outstanding teaching. The Faculty Director is responsible for providing vision and leadership, in an advisory capacity, for the UA Teaching Academy’s programming, instructional components, scholarly initiatives, mentoring networks, and faculty development/engagement.

Detailed Position Information
The University of Alabama’s newly-commissioned UA Teaching Academy, housed in the Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education (OTIDE), is dedicated to supporting the institution’s strategic goal of providing a premier education characterized by outstanding teaching. The Faculty Director is responsible for providing vision and leadership, in an advisory capacity, for the UA Teaching Academy’s programming, instructional components, scholarly initiatives, mentoring networks, and faculty development/engagement. Finally, the Faculty Director will work closely with the UA Teaching Academy’s Director – Operations, Executive Director, Academic Innovation for OTIDE, and Associate Provost for OTIDE in developing and directing instructional innovation for UA.

The Director’s 12-month appointment will be 0.5 FTE for OTIDE with some summer administrative responsibilities. There is the possibility for additional time dedicated to the role in the first year if an arrangement can be made with the home college. This will be a part-time role, allowing the Faculty Director to maintain a faculty appointment in their home academic college with appropriate adjustments to their workload.

The Faculty Director understands the various instructional needs of all UA faculty, stays abreast of literature on teaching and learning, and collaborates with national groups and individuals regarding teaching and learning practices. The Faculty Director works closely with the UA faculty, Faculty Senate, academic officers/representatives, senior leadership, and UA Teaching Academy staff to assess best practices related to Academy programming, activities, and faculty outreach while further supporting assessment strategies to identify trends and research in the field.

The Faculty Director will provide direction, mentoring, and leadership for the Faculty Fellows Program, Adjunct Academy, graduate student teaching initiatives, and peer observations.

OTIDE provides high-quality, student-centered educational opportunities through various modalities. The UA Teaching Academy Faculty Director serves as a direct link between OTIDE and the larger UA academic community. OTIDE supports the University of Alabama’s mission by providing exceptional online and continuing education opportunities to enhance lifelong learning for the citizens of the State of Alabama and across the globe. Minimum Qualifications
Current UA faculty member, tenured (associate or full professor rank)

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years cumulative experience at accredited institutions of higher education Accomplished teaching in higher education Excellent oral and written communication skills Track record of fostering collaboration with administrators, faculty, staff, and students Advanced knowledge and experience in the following: · Theories of learning and curricular design, and innovative teaching approaches · Learning and program assessment strategies · Use, implementation, and best practices for instructional technologies · Grant writing and program fundraising efforts
