Job Summary

Develop and execute a strategic employer engagement program representing the interests of Smith College students and alums. Cultivate, nurture, and expand employer relationships with local and regional organizations to secure internship and job opportunities for students and alumnae. Strengthen strategic partnerships by implementing customized recruiting and branding/campus engagement plans. Identify and cultivate opportunities for cross-campus collaboration with faculty and staff, in order to secure and promote unique value propositions for recruiting Smith College talent. Establish Smith's reputation as a leader in inclusive recruiting, through innovative employer partnerships, collaborations with other women's colleges, and visibility in regional and national associations.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Employer Engagement (60%)

Conduct strategic growth employer partners both domestically and internationally through marketing and leveraging personal, professional and college-wide contacts and sourcing alumnae and corporate volunteers. Lead the recruiting team to manage all employer relationships with a high level of customer service and a commitment to inclusive excellence. Recruit new and returning employers to participate in career fairs and other on-campus engagement opportunities. Collaborate with campus partners, including faculty and advancement services, to manage employer/job referrals, handling posting, and communicating updates and outcomes to the referral source. Research and stay informed regarding national, state and local hiring practices, legal issues, recruiting trends, job market outlooks, and related issues. Develop and enforce student and employer policies regarding job postings and recruiting practices.

Business Network Development (30%)

Build and sustain relationships with employers in the areas of business, consulting, entrepreneurship, and finance -- positioning Smith graduates to be highly competitve for top entry careers. Manage employer partner relationships, working to renew and expand accounts by engaging partners to understand their business goals and talent needs. Deepen business networks through employer site visits, alum panels, and mentoring opportunities. Lead flagship programs such as Excel Fundamentals, MBA Crack the Case, and Wall Street Prep, while also adding new programs and assessing value with a data-informed strategy.

Other Functions

Team Supervision and Leadership (10%)

Manage the employer relations team of 2 to ensure high-quality service delivery, team participation, alignment with national best practices, and rigor in inclusive recruiting standards. Lead team meetings and professional development activities. Maintain active standing in regional, state and national organization. Supervise the team to manage employer contact notes, approve new contacts, employers, and job postings via Handshake career management system. Carry a small advising load of students seeking specific industry connections as related to strategic employer partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Master's degree in student personnel services, counseling and guidance, or related disciple, and at least five years of professional experience in university/college setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Leadership experience in a higher education or recruiting environment with significant management and cross-functional leadership responsibilities. Strong professional experience in employer recruiting and network development with demonstrated results. Dynamic leadership qualities, including strategic planning, collaboration, and communication skills.

Comfort sharing and receiving feedback; responsible; creative; enthusiastic; deadline-oriented; able to work independently. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and holding a high level of accountability for inclusive standards in all programming and relationship management.

Preferred Qualifications

Intermediate/advanced Excel, budget management, technology integration, and data analytic capability. Training or certification in career coaching from NACE, NCDA or a comparable training association.

Skills

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to quickly build rapport with diverse constituents including employers, faculty/staff, students, alumnae, parents and other partners. Familiarity with the benefit of a residential liberal arts education and ability to articulate the value of liberal arts students to employers. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong technical ability and familiarity with Handshake, Simplicity (or comparable systems), Webinar, video conferencing systems. Able to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team. High attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to initiate and manage multiple tasks, projects and events under competing deadlines and shifting priorities. Ability to work occasional evenings. Ability to occasionally travel regionally.
