Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:Facilities Planning and Design is comprised of design professionals who are responsible for the planning, design and management of all capital improvement projects. The projects include new buildings, repairs and renovation of existing buildings, major campus infrastructure, interior design, open space improvements and preservation of historic properties. Facilities Planning and Design ensures that the projects adhere to the principles of adapted land use plan and campus development guidelines.
Position Summary:A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $7,499 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:
$3,749.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $3,749.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.
The Facilities Planning & Design department is comprised of design professionals who are responsible for the planning, design and management of all capital improvement projects across the Chapel Hill campus, and master planning and the collection and organization of space data and mapping for the greater University.
This position functions as a Accessibilities Specialist within the Facilities Planning & Design Department, providing accessibility reviews of technical expertise for all University capital improvement projects. The position also functions as an expert consultant to the UNC Office of University Counsel and UNC Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office.
Bachelor’s degree in institutional planning, public administration, engineering, architecture, business administration, economics, industrial technology or a related discipline and two years of facility and space planning experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:A thorough knowledge of the principals and practices of architecture, engineering, and planning design with particular focus on accessibility and code compliance. Ability to review and critique facility and site designs. Ability to manage capital projects to successful completion by adhering to defined schedule, resources and budget.
Must also possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Minimum of five years of facility space planning and/or project design experience with a focus on campus accessibility. Knowledge, skills, and abilities in accessibility compliance with the state building code and requirements of the Federal American with Disability Act.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form. Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
