Job Summary

The Special Education program, housed within the Department of Literacy and Special Education in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia, invites dynamic applicants to join our growing program. The College of Education at the University of West Georgia is a doctoral-granting recognized leader in preparing exemplary practitioners for a variety of educational roles. The College of Education offers high-level technological support, mentoring for new faculty, assistance seeking research funding, and opportunities to partner with area school districts and to work with graduate students at all levels. Located 45 miles west of Atlanta, the University of West Georgia is rapidly growing, with programs at the undergraduate level through the doctorate, and a diverse faculty and student population. Our 645-acre campus offers modem, state-of-the-art facilities complimented by beautiful green spaces.It ranks as one of the Southeast's best public regional comprehensive universities.

The Special Education program consists of four degrees in special education with tracks in adapted and general curriculum. Degrees include B.S.Ed., MAT., M.Ed., and an Ed.S. in Special Education. All programs are online. The UWG special education initial certification programs have the highest number of students who complete the degrees in the state of Georgia.

Position Description: This is an associate professor position in the special education program. We are seeking an experienced educator with experience in P-12 and university settings who will help elevate and grow the special education program at UW

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities, including:

-Developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, with an emphasis on quality online instruction

-Conducting meaningful research and scholarship activities

-Participating in university, college, and departmental meetings, events, committee, work, and professional service

-Advising graduate students

-Working collaboratively with doctoral programs in the College of Education

-Working Collaboratively with P-12 school committees

-Completing other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in special education or a closely related field.

Minimum of 3 years' experience in teaching children with disabilities in school settings.

Minimum of 4 years' experience as faculty at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful experience with one or more of the following areas:

-Experience in coordinating or leading programs at the university level

-Developed network of peers and organizations in the southeast region.

-Delivering and developing instruction with students with disabilities in early childhood special education.

-Delivering and developing instruction in Multi-tiered Systems of Support

-Succeffdul experience with delivering and developing instruction for students with autism.

-Successful experience with delivering and developing instruction for students with high and/or low-incidence disabilities.

Using assistive technology with students with disabilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of special education as a field. They will know how to mentor teacher candidates and in-service teachers. They will have experience as a special educator in the field. They will have experience delivering both online and on-campus delivery of university-level instruction.
