Job Details

Job location is at the following locations10355 Science Center Dr, San Diego, CA 92121 & 441 Saxony Road, Barn 7 Encinitas, CA 92024

The CRoPS project aims to develop crop plants that sequester more carbon via extensive root systems containing recalcitrant carbon polymers to fight climate change. A major component of this research is to confirm trait changes through genetic manipulation and various phenotyping methods.

The Research Assistant I will work closely with a Senior Research Scientist, and other members of the CRoPS project and the Busch laboratory to conduct screening of root traits to identify genetic mechanisms that lead to optimal root systems for carbon sequestration. Responsibilities include plant maintenance and manipulation, image acquisition, trait measurement, optimizing protocols for plant growth and plant measurements, data analysis, and utilizing molecular biology techniques such as primer design, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, bacterial transformation, and cloning to further characterize genes.
