Psychology faculty are teaching professionals. They serve CSM students as advisors, mentors and support the College's commitment to diversity and equity through their engagement and variety of activities, including Social Justice Day and the Diversity in Education Program. CSM faculty are expected to be knowledgeable of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches. As such, we are seeking an innovative educator to join our Psychology faculty. Psychology faculty teach courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Personality and Adjustment, Introduction to Abnormal Psychology, Lifespan Development, and Human Sexuality.

We have highly skilled and creative faculty who incorporate the latest teaching approaches and technology into their instructional delivery. Our faculty work closely with students inside and outside of the classroom to help them maximize their success. Faculty serve as advisors to student clubs. Psychology faculty are also instrumental in building partnership agreements with 4-year colleges. Faculty participate in regional and national conferences in Psychology and related disciplines in the social sciences.

Additional Information:

Since this position requires in-person teaching and other in-person faculty duties, the candidate will be required to live within commuting distance of the Southern Maryland area.

Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesPsychology faculty teach a wide range of freshman and sophomore level undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach 15 credit hours per semester and 30 credit hours per academic year of day, evening or weekend classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position

    as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. There may be an opportunity to teach classes in the summer also. Faculty may be assigned to teach on the La Plata campus or any campus or center where CSM offers classes. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development thorough participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.

    DUTIES AND STANDARDS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Teach 30 credits of courses per contract year in the Psychology discipline
  • Teach a range of courses that may include morning, day, evening, weekend or online, in an accelerated format. Opportunities may exist to teach in summer
  • Design assignments that incorporate students' program of study and connect to the Psychology discipline
  • Engage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches
  • Meet with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students
  • Incorporate culturally relevant pedagogies into the teaching and learning process
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret information
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver instruction to diverse student populations, with varied levels of learning and preparation
  • Knowledge and use of student engagement strategies that support completion and student success goals
  • Demonstrated experience providing feedback students can use to improve their performance
  • Experience developing or using Open Education Resource (OER) materials as an instructional tool
  • Maintain an ongoing program of professional development and participate in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences and activities
  • Mastery of appropriate computer operation skills Minimum Education and Training
  • Master's degree in Psychology or closely related field, Required
  • One year of college-level teaching experience, preferably at the community college level Preferred.
  • Ability to use word processing, basic internet applications, and basic database navigation
  • Ability to use an educational enterprise, learning management system such as Desire 2 Learn to support and facilitate instructional delivery.
