The Residence Director reports to the Assistant/Associate Director and will manage a large residential community housing of students efficiently, safely, and in a way that promotes student success and community building to support out-of-classroom learning.

The Residence Director will also serve in an on-call capacity to respond to emergency and non-crisis situations. This is an important role that requires excellent communication and relationship-building skills, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Maintain an active presence within the assigned residential area, both by maintaining regularly scheduled office hours and attending programs and events within the building and campus communities.

  • Meet individual students to discuss concerns and problems, providing assistance and support as required, and referring students to resources as appropriate.

  • Maintain all necessary documentation and submit reports from meetings as required by college procedures and federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff including Resident Assistants, International Student Peer Mentors, Front Desk Assistants, and Office Assistants.

  • Create instructional documents for staff training; provide guidance, training, feedback, and encouragement to staff members.

  • Respond to emergency and non-crisis situations as necessary

  • Serve on a campus on-call duty rotation

  • Serve as a Conduct Hearing Officer as required; serve on Conduct Boards as assigned.

  • Oversee RA programming and community development, approving program proposals, delivering lesson plans, and ensuring that assessment documentation is submitted after each RA program.

  • Serve on department and interdepartmental committees

  • Support major operational functions: room change process, housing selection, residence hall openings and closings, break period coverage,

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform this job.

  • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Psychology, or a related field required

  • Minimum of 1 year of full-time experience working with college students required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of student development theory, housing operations, and residential life

  • Commitment to diversity, intersections of individuals, and team building

  • Ability to effectively work with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences

  • Ability to supervise and train staff members

  • Proficiency in using computer software and the ability to learn new software easily

  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances

  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required

  • This position is generally sedentary in nature, movement throughout the area is required from time to time.

  • Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with co-workers, supervisors, and customers is essential.

  • Repetitive movements, occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds, reaching, lifting, stooping and the ability to read a computer screen, detect color-coding and read fine print will be expected.

  • Ability to serve in an out-of-hours on-campus duty rotation is required.

COMPENSATION

Starting salary for this position will be between $40,644 - $47,757 annually commensurate with experience.

The Residence Director will live on campus so that they can fulfill frequent evening and weekend responsibilities, including advising students and assisting with special campus events.

Grade of Position: 23-04E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
