Job Summary:
This position,reporting directly to the Vice President for Research, oversees the routing,acceptance, and modification processes of externally sponsored grants andcontracts at OSU-CHS, including sponsored research, instruction, and othersponsored activities. The Director supports the research community byestablishing policies and procedures, providing guidance and consultation, andserving as the liaison with external sponsors on administrative changesthroughout the life of an award.

The Director ofthe Preaward Grant Office will use best practices and appropriate systems (includingCayuse, InfoReady, Banner) to improve research administration services atOSU-CHS. The Director will serve as an authorized University representative insupport of grant and contract applications as well as necessary reports ordocuments connected with proposal submissions. The Director will supervise andprovide appropriate training for the preaward office staff (approximately 5positions). The Director will prepare, analyze and reporttrends in proposal submissions and awards. The Director will represent OSU-CHSin national organizations, such as the National Council for UniversityResearch Administration (NCURA), the Society of Research AdministratorsInternational (SRAi), the Council on Government Relations (COGR) or otherappropriate venues.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Required:
-Advanced education at the master’s level or equivalenteducation and experience, and five years ofprogressively more responsible professional experience in research andsponsored programs development and administration, preferably in an academicenvironment.
-Knowledge of research compliance (e.g., IRB and IACUC). Candidates without a master’s degree who havemore than ten years of supervisory experience in university researchadministration may be considered.

Skills, Proficiencies,and Knowledge:
Detailed and current knowledge of 2 CFR 200 (UniformGuidance), federal agencies regulations and procedures applicable to grants andcontracts; superior written and verbal communication skills; attention todetail; ability to prioritize and handle multiple deadlines.
knowledge of the university research environment; familiaritywith federal and state regulatory and compliance issues affecting universities;experience with award processes of HRSA, NIH, SAMHSA, DOD; This position willwork with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and interact with allsegments of the University.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communicationskills. Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive informationappropriately, Basic Knowledge of MS Word, Basic Knowledge of MS Excel, Must beable to utilize a variety of computer software programs and grant systems inorder to successfully complete assigned tasks.


Preferred:
-Doctoral degree.
-Certified Research Administrator (CRA) is aplus.
-Utilization of grants management systems/software. Proven ability to workeffectively with faculty in a variety of disciplines across the University.
