Position Description:
The Executive Director of Entrepreneurial Programs (EDEP) is responsible for co-curricular entrepreneurship programs sponsored by the Division of Undergraduate Education at UCLA and entrepreneurship collaborations with campus-wide impact. The EDEP shall direct and manage all aspects of Startup UCLA, which includes the Summer Accelerator, the Blackstone Launchpad at UCLA, Innovation Fellows program, Social Entrepreneurship Summer Institute for high school students, Bruin Impact Challenge, and any newly created initiatives, including those related to campus curricula. Responsibilities include staff and volunteer management, fundraising, program development and implementation, student and faculty outreach and placement, networking, identifying and building external partnerships, collaboration partner liaising, coalition building, budgeting and grant reporting. The EDEP directs the many entrepreneurship co-curricular program opportunities primarily for undergraduate students and alumni with a view toward developing awareness of entrepreneurship generally in the undergraduate student experience, while specifically enabling startup and other entrepreneurial ideas to become prototypes and business plans through an accelerator and mentor process with experienced professionals, with emphasis on innovation for public good.

The EDEP works independently under the supervision of the Assistant Dean to manage the programs, services, activities, fundraising, and external partnerships of Startup UCLA. The incumbent will recommend administrative policies and procedures for implementation of the programs' missions; works with key stakeholders, the Advisory Board, and Steering Committee to engage in strategic planning. The incumbent identifies, pursues, and secures funding from individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and government sources and serves as steward of all secured funds. Plans based upon appropriate use of resources and organizational needs as well as divisional and institutional priorities. The EDEP will be the primary author of a strategic communications plan designed to raise the profile and prestige of Startup UCLA with students, faculty, volunteers, the community, and collaboration partners.

The incumbent shall coordinate Startup UCLA projects and manage events; develop partnerships and liaise with other UCLA campus offices, academic units, and entrepreneurial programs, identifying points of contact and potential collaborations, including curricular tie ins; professional staff, student workers, undergraduate student/alumni volunteers/trainees with a view toward expanding and enhancing both the Blackstone Launchpad and Startup UCLA programs and generally enhancing the spirit of entrepreneurialism on campus. The incumbent provides coaching and referral services year-round supporting the development of UCLA student and alumni entrepreneurs.

The EDEP shall facilitate the Advisory Board and Steering Committee meetings and coordinate the action items that result from those meetings; manage program expenses and grant funding through working with the Undergraduate Education Administrative Office. Provides general oversight to and works collaboratively with Venture Consultants, the Accelerator Director, Assistant Director and other staff to coordinate all aspects of programming; maintain the database of mentors, expert advisors, guest speakers, and business partners; identify outcomes, survey and track the impact of program events on students, alumni, and business partners; work with the Alumni Office, Development Office, and student groups to coordinate program activities, which include those offices; prepare proposals to seek additional grant funding from outside agencies; update website content; implement the program's communication plan using social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
