Senior Lecturer - Electrical & Computer Engineering

Organization
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Houston invites applications for a Senior Lecturer (non-tenure track) position in the newly created Computer Engineering and Analytics (CEA) undergraduate degree program at the University of Houston at Katy. UH at Katy is a satellite location in Katy, Texas, 30 miles west of the UH main campus. Administration, advising, and instruction for the program will occur at the Katy location. The anticipated start date for the position is June 1, with teaching duties beginning in the fall.

Responsibilities for the position will be primarily teaching in upper division courses, but may include some administrative duties. Courses taught in the CEA program can be found here: http://publications.uh.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=36&poid=13720. Lecturers work closely with Electrical and Computer Engineering department instructors with the goal of equipping our students for success in their academic journey. It is a very high priority for the college to provide a positive and supportive environment where students are enabled to succeed academically while gaining an understanding of the engineering profession and its disciplines, and our instructional faculty play a key role in this enterprise.

The main responsibility of this position is teaching. At the same time, there is an expectation that our lecturers will also contribute to service and administrative tasks as required. The teaching course load is twelve contact hours per semester, sometimes with several sections of the same course. Course assignments will be at the undergraduate level, focusing on third- and fourth-year courses of the CEA program, but with a limited number of sophomore courses as well. While most of the teaching duties will be at the Katy building, some teaching may be delivered online or at the main campus at UH.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure-track position as a lecturer. Appointments are made on an annual 9-month basis, salary commensurate with experience. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Candidates are required to submit a cover letter highlighting the candidate’s strengths and interest in the position, curriculum vitae, statement on teaching philosophy, and the names of three professional references.
