The Staff Accountant of Financial Operations is a key member of the General Accounting and Financial Reporting team at Boston University. Major duties of this position include:

  • Responsible for reconciling all cash accounts; examines transactions in these accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy, distributes monthly reconciliation reports to and works with various departments to resolve reconciling items.
  • Determines/processes monthly currency gain/loss on foreign cash accounts.
  • Reconciles ACH/wire, checks, credit card and merchant transaction entries.
  • Understands accounting of disbursements, wires, grants, credit cards and other various transactions to properly and accurately identify transactions recorded on the general ledger and bank statements.
  • Collaborates with members of General Accounting and other various departments to ensure month-end closing procedures are completed on time.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual external audit, including preparing schedules and support-related to audit selections.
Required Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably public accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, including complex formulas to acquire, organize, and analyze data
  • Ability to analyze data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and ad-hoc requests to meet or exceed deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output
  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively in team environment
  • Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious

Preferred Skills

  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Experience with ERP and/or SAP
