Partial hybrid work options may be considered with a majority of the week on campus.

The individual in this position should be available outside of normal work hours to assist in emergency events. As a result, it is expected to be reachable, within reason, via mobile device.

Basic Function:

Provide support/administration of campus data network and associated systems, including client support connectivity/use of these systems. Assist with the administration of wired and wireless network equipment, network security mechanisms, structured cabling, and applicable monitoring tools.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Install, configure, and support network equipment including network switches, wireless access points, wireless controllers, routers, DNS, DHCP, and IPAM environment.
  • Procure network equipment and manage subcontractors involved with network equipment installations and maintenance.
  • Assist with design and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current network technologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement and maintain secure, reliable network services.
  • Configuring access control, firewalls, routers, and switches to maximize network efficiency and security.
  • Maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting of the network.
  • Perform scheduled upgrades and updates for servers and network equipment as needed.
  • Provide direction to student assistants, in coordination with the Sr. Network Engineer.
  • Consult with and support colleagues in ITS and campus partners, which may include training sessions, developing and maintaining documentation for essential functions, and third-tier end user support as necessary.
  • Communicate with vendors and peers to keep abreast of emerging products, technologies, and services.
  • Assist with compliance of IT security initiatives in coordination with the Information Security Officer. Including information discovery and incident response on security-related issues as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, or another related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience with industry standards in networks and systems such as Ethernet (TCP/IP, OSI), DHCP, DNS, and routing utilizing enterprise-class switches and routers (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, etc.).
  • Strong technical background, analytical and problem-solving skills, and communication ability.
  • Must work well independently and with others of varying technical skill levels.
  • Project planning and implementation experience.
  • Demonstrated adaptability ensuring effectiveness in an environment with concurrent tasks and changing priorities and resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, or another related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Knowledge of and at least one year of experience as a networking professional in a multi-user IT environment.
  • Experience leveraging RestAPIs and writing scripts in languages such as Python.
  • Knowledge and experience with Linux and VMware environments.
  • Experience administering complex network services with failover and load balancing configuration.
  • Experience with managing DHCP, DNS, and IPAM implementations.
  • Certifications as related to position functions.
  • Evidence of personal focus on refreshing knowledge and learning new skills relevant to the field.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to walk the campus, stairs/hills, and move up to 30 lbs using appropriate equipment or assistance as needed.
