General Description / Primary Purpose:

  • Under supervision of the Student Government Director, the Social Media & Communications Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring UNF Student Government’s social media presence under a unified brand and communications strategy throughout its branches, offices and Executive agencies (Lend-A-Wing/Lend-A-Fit and the Osprey Involvement Center). The Social Media & Communications Coordinator plays a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to grow UNF Student Government’s reputation across social media platforms. This position leads and advises the UNF Student Government Marketing and Communications team and will collaborate with departments and units across the university.
  • This position is the administrative constant across administrations and helps lead social media campaigns and strategies related to student and registered student organization successes, as well as major Student Government and Executive agency initiatives. The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for advising the UNF Student Government Marketing and Communications team to bring social media ideas to life through engaging content, design and imagery.
  • The Social Media & Communications Coordinator will have an intimate knowledge of the social media landscape, as well as content development. The Social Media Coordinator assists the Director in providing social media guidance and training to departments, including best practices, counsel related policies and ADA compliance. This role collaborates with internal and external constituents as needed to ensure effective, strategic, well-executed social media strategies and campaigns.
  • Takes a proactive approach to ensuring UNF Student Government maintains a professional, ethical and consistent social media presence that fosters an environment of respect and integrity for our Osprey community, and takes corrective action if that environment is compromised.

Job Function:

  • Advise & direct the Student Government Marketing and Communications team on how to leverage social media to effectively communicate UNF Student Government’s mission of representing all student concerns in all University-wide matters while showcasing, promoting and developing programs and activities that further the outside-classroom educational, social, cultural & recreational student interests.
  • Supervise, train and advise student team, responsible for assisting in overall Executive Agency daily operations, including identifying safety and risk management issues.
  • Assists in implementing the University’s strategic goals and commitment through social media.
  • Advises the UNF Student Government Marketing and Communications team on promoting major Student Government and Executive agency events on campus to drive UNF school spirit and student engagement.
  • Monitor comments about UNF Student Government and messages across social media and take appropriate action.
  • Advises the UNF Student Government Marketing and Communications team in the development and execution of major social media campaigns across all platforms to grow engagement.
  • Stays current with the latest social media best practices and emerging technologies and knowledge of various social media management platforms (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Canva, etc.).
  • First point of contact for any Student Government public records requests, as well as interviews with media outlets.
  • Research other universities’ social media practices at a local and national level, stays informed on general higher education trends and media coverage.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulation as they relate to social media.
  • Develop proposals, recommendations and reports for senior leadership as well as assist in interpreting laws, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of social media guidelines, policies, agreement form, directory, post request form and toolkit in addition to maintaining the social media department’s webpages.
  • Maintain & update Student Government’s event calendars across all social media platforms.
  • Leverage future brand strategy and visual identity across all communications.
  • Assists in the development and completion of trainings and workshops for the UNF Student Government Marketing and Communications team.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with owners of other social media accounts affiliated with UNF to communicate best practices, branding strategies and visual identity
  • Ensures brand consistency on all social media platforms through tone, voice, terminology and visual aids.
  • Participates in scheduled Student Government Marketing and Communications team staff meetings; SG professional staff meetings; attends senate and legislative meetings as needed
  • In the event of an emergency, this position plays a critical role in crisis communication and will be called upon to publish external messages through multiple UNF social media platforms and is responsible for social monitoring during a crisis.
  • During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising or related fields.
  • Minimum of two years of experience (or equivalent) experience in social media, marketing and/or communications. Strong preference for candidates with previous experience in marketing and communications positions in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage social media sites including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and encourage students in creating engaging content across target audiences.
  • Demonstrate mastery of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of design/layout principles for social media platforms.
  • Enthusiasm to learn and grow marketing and communications skill set.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes the person in this role has a responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security, which will make the person in this position someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA’s responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.
