Summary of position:

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Organizational Affairs for the Department of Public Safety, the Director of Technology for Public Safety directs and oversees the day-to-day as well as long-term planning activities related to the technology, hardware, and software used by the department. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a long-term technology and equipment plan for the department, ensuring that the technology and equipment used across Temple’s campuses meet the safety and security objectives of the department and Temple. Additionally, the Director ensures that the department’s technology and communications equipment, including its over 1,400 cameras and 90 blue phones, are properly maintained, inventoried, integrated, and used; and offers training, troubleshooting, and technical support to department staff. They provide business analysis, project management, and technical expertise to support the department’s continuous improvement and strategic planning efforts, and they work closely with the university’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department to maintain the Department of Public Safety’s current hardware and software as well as to research, recommend, and implement new technologies including License Plate Readers (LPRs), gun detection devices, and gun shot detection devices. They act as the contract administrator and vendors’ primary contact for technology contracts; administer technology-related grants; and work closely with the department’s finance personnel to develop the department’s technology budget and ensure proper billing of technology assets.

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelors Degree

* Minimum of 5 years of job related experience in IT integrated technology, computer science, law and/or related field.

* A combination of education and work related experience may be considered.

Required skills and abilities:

* Knowledge of law enforcement systems, and the rules and regulations that govern them.

* Knowledge of computer systems, systems administration, user maintenance, technical documentation, and general software/hardware support.

* Knowledge in the operation of body-worn camera equipment and software.

 

Preferred:

* Masters Degree

* experience working in law enforcement

* experience in program management.

* Knowledge of leading practices for records management and retention.

* Knowledge of project management, project planning, scheduling, monitoring and problem solving.

* Knowledge of process improvement methodologies.
