Job Description:

Saybrook University, a non-profit accredited graduate school using a hybrid distance/residential learning model, seeks Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Humanistic Clinical Psychology. Innovative and progressive applicants are invited to join a distinguished faculty; whose accomplishments reflect the quality and academic achievement of our students and graduates. Our faculty are scholar-practitioners and leaders in their fields and professional associations, like within the American Psychological Association in many of its divisions. Faculty are effective educators, inspiring clinical supervisors, well published scholars, and social activists for change. Our pedagogy includes a rich diverse curriculum with a focus on critical and creative thinking grounded in humanistic principles. It combines best practices in hybrid online and residential education. Saybrook students are mature and proficient in the use of advances in technology applied in higher education. We prepare scholar-practitioners to engage the world in the 21st century.

*Position starts August 1, 2023, or until filled.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Effective student engagement and mentorship

  • Collaboration with and responsiveness to department chair, faculty, staff accordingly

  • Course Delivery/Development and Syllabus Review/Updating

    • Deliver high quality innovative on-line courses that foster critical thinking

    • Ensure high academic standards and quality aligned with program learning outcomes

    • Coordination of course offerings and catalog documentation as needed

    • Potential to design innovative, progressive, and clinically responsive courses

    • Participating in curriculum development, as needed.

  • Attend at least one faculty meeting per term (others are encouraged); monitor departmental communications

  • Residential Learning Experiences (RLE)

    • Potential for presenting workshops, course introductions, clinical training, and/or attending meetings during the weeklong in-person learning activity (negotiable)

Position Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate in psychology or highest degree for discipline

  • Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist or licensed practitioner in discipline

  • Demonstrated scholarship, clinical practice, and/or accomplishments in the fields of humanistic, existential, multiculturalism, and/or transpersonal psychologies

  • Previous experience in faculty leadership roles, particularly regarding curriculum development and working across departments preferred.

  • Relevant online supervision and teaching experience at the doctoral level, including supervision of dissertation research

  • Clinical experience and effectiveness in working with ethnically diverse and/or other special populations

Position Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the goals and vision of Saybrook University

  • Able to offer on-line instruction regarding diverse theoretical perspectives

  • Committed to excellence in teaching, practice, and research (experiences with on-line instruction is desirable)

  • Knowledge and experience of online higher education and research/IRB administration best practices.

  • Experience with Office 365, Learning Management Systems (Canvas experience preferred), and other software for research, IRB administration, and online teaching.

Compensation & Benefits

Three credit courses are budgeted at $2,000-4,000 per course, dependent upon student enrollment. Two credit courses are budgeted at $1,334-2,668 per course, dependent upon student enrollment. Under-enrolled courses may fall below these ranges. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
