Job Title: Learning Specialist for the Office of Disability Services                            

Reports To: Assistant Director of Disability Services            

Status:  Exempt - Full-Time- 10 Month Position: August 1st- May 31st


General Job Description

The Learning Specialist (LS) provides services supporting students with the Office of Disability Services and students enrolled in the Persist Achieve Connect Thrive program (P.A.C.T). The Learning Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Disability Services and works collaboratively within the department to address the needs of students registered with ODS. The Learning Specialist works directly with students to develop and apply learning skills and implements best practices to help students be successful. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide weekly one-hour sessions of academic support to students registered with ODS. Session’s topics may include working with students on writing skills, reading comprehension skills, executive functioning skills such as time management, prioritization and study skills. 
  2. Coordinate and facilitate the Persist Achieve Connect Thrive program (P.A.C.T). This includes designing and conducting weekly workshops, programming as well individualized support.
  3. Incorporate relevant current best practices in developing and tailoring a personalized program of academic support based on each student’s strengths and needs 
  4. Assist the Assistant Director with new student intake appointments by discussing approved accommodations with newly registered students, and reviewing the procedures and policies within the office. 
  5. Design and lead programs and workshops for students with disabilities and the campus community highlighting relevant topics. 
  6. Represent the department at recruiting events. 
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned 


Requirements

1. Masters degree in Education required- Special Education experience preferred 

2. Excellent written and oral communication skills

3. Strong organizational skills

4. Working knowledge of computer systems such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, etc. 

5. At least 5 years of experience in educational support required

The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.
