The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2021-2022 academic year, we enrolled over 34,000 students in which 60% identify as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% as Black/African American, 20% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. Fresno City College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Providing instruction and coordinator duties on the Fresno City College campus and/or at off-site community or campus locations, the instructor/coordinator will be responsible for:
- Performing a wide variety of duties focusing on coordinating the hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluation of part-time instructors;
- Coordinating and ensuring the security of all phases of testing for advanced officer students including written examinations, practical exercises and scenario testing;
- Attending when necessary Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) consortium meetings, workshops, and seminars and keep faculty informed of changes in curriculum, learning objectives, and testing;
- Meeting with and advising agency representatives on the progress of students;
- Supervising, counseling and interacting with Academy students in the absence of the Academy Coordinator and, when necessary, take appropriate disciplinary action;
- Monitoring inventory and condition of facilities and equipment;
- Monitoring safety guidelines for POST and College compliance;
- Substituting for recruit training officer and certificated staff as necessary;
- Planning and assisting with academy graduation ceremonies;
- Operating computer and other equipment;
- Scheduling and coordinating in-service technical training courses on campus and at all off-site locations;
- Seeking opportunities and developing curriculum for new technical courses;
- Providing oral and written reports;
- Assisting in marketing and promotion of the program;
- Keeping academy web site updated;
- Updating and maintaining POST Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), to ensure all necessary information is current and up to date;
- Submitting grades for all courses that are certified and or registered for the college;
- Attending meetings as assigned and participating in departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities and committees;
- Tracking and coordinating the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation Courses, including budget and contracts for Independent Contractors and Hotels;
- Participating with faculty to develop and assess student learning outcomes and use the results to improve teaching and learning;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Assisting in the advancement of the institutional mission and goals;
- perform other related duties as needed, and;
- Otherwise fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience; or any associate degree and six years of professional experience; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; and
- Experience as a sworn full-time first-level supervisor; and
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate the instruction and management of the Regular Basic Course instructional system;or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Conditions of Employment:
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities;
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- A master’s degree or higher in Criminology or related field, with six years and documented experience as an instructor or trainer for a POST or law enforcement agency or community college;
- Knowledge of generally accepted procedures and training delivery strategies as mandated by POST, including adult learning concepts and techniques;
- Principles of planning, scheduling, organizing and supervision of equipment typically used by law enforcement;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications;
- Operation of audio/visual equipment and other educational technologies;
- Ability to employ excellent verbal and written communication skills including correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;
- Review the work of adjunct faculty;
- Ability to receive and follow instructions and appropriately interact with students, staff, faculty, and the public;
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to function in a fast paced multi-functional workplace;
- Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver public presentations;
- Work with a significant degree of independence and use good judgment;
- Understand and have sensitivity to ethnic, cultural and gender issues;
- Train, and evaluate adjunct faculty, and;
- Learn and apply college and district policies and procedures.
178-181 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $64,962 – $97,799 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employees and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).
