Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Visiting Assistant Professor-Department of Theatre & Musical Theatre seeks a theatre instructor to teach Directing and Acting courses. The ability to teach Stage Management is desirable. The successful candidate will teach up to 12 credit hours per semester, including but not limited to directing, acting, and possibly stage management. In addition, the successful candidate will direct one production for the department in the academic year.
Educational Requirements for the Position:MFA; Terminal degree required.
Experience Required for the Position:MFA in Directing or Acting with documented skills as a theatre artist/teacher in both areas of artistic practice (acting and directing). Professional directing, acting, and musical theatre experience are preferred. Candidates with a successful track record of teaching at the college or university level will be considered first. Experience and training in musical theatre are desirable.
Other Requirements for the Position:Essential to this position is the ability to work collaboratively as a team member in rehearsals and productions. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from various communities and cultures. Service integral to position and participation in departmental activities is required.
