Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Chief Operations Officer - SFI Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (iCRAG) within UCD School of Earth Science.

iCRAG, the SFI Research Centre for Applied Geosciences (icrag-centre.org), is a 70m Research Centre funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), industry, exchequer (including Geological Survey Ireland), and non-exchequer sources. iCRAG research focuses on aspects of the past, present and future Earth system that are critical to society and the economy, including:

  • Sustainable discovery of energy resources and raw materials required for decarbonisation.
  • Securing and protecting groundwater and marine resources.
  • Protecting society from Earth's hazards such as flooding and landslides.
  • Understanding the societal aspects of earth system change, the supply and use of earth resources, and geohazards.

iCRAG is based in University College Dublin (UCD). It brings together more than 150 researchers from UCD, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), Dublin City University (DCU), Maynooth University (MU), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Cork (UCC), University of Galway (UoG), and University of Limerick (UL) iCRAG has a wide range of industry and international partners. The iCRAG Centre wishes to recruit a Chief Operations Officer on a fixed-term, full-time contract basis until December 31st 2026. This position is a senior executive, in-person role based at University College Dublin. The post-holder will report to the iCRAG Centre Director at UCD.

We seek an exceptional team leader who will play a key role in managing and guiding the Centre. We are looking for a strategic-thinking self-starter who can manage an established and experienced team and a large and complex budget. They should have strong interpersonal and administrative skills and be comfortable representing the organisation nationally and internationally to external partners and stakeholders. This position will encompass several categories of responsibility, as detailed below.

Salary Range: 110,000 - 128,000 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
