The Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a one-year contractually term-limited appointment (CLTA) in the area of Sport and Exercise Biomechanics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in kinesiology or a cognate discipline, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate program teaching in the areas of movement observation and evaluation, physical activity and exercise applications, and the biomechanics of sport and exercise movement. Candidates with an R.Kin designation are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching experience in the areas identified above, and the supervision of students in practical exercise settings, will be considered a strong asset. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program including, the design and teaching of for-credit academic courses. The successful candidate must also have strong communication skills, demonstrated success in developing students’ mastery of a related subject, and mastery of the latest practice and developments in their field.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry commensurate with their career stage. Evidence of excellence in teaching can be demonstrated through the teaching philosophy statement, teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, course syllabi and evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. In addition, other teaching-related activities can include experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters. Other forms of recognition that will be considered include letters of support from community organizations aligned with the candidate’s areas of expertise and/or associated community members.

Excellent pedagogical inquiry and professional development can be demonstrated by engagement with professional associations such as the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (CKO), the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA), the Canadian Society for Biomechanics, the International Society for Biomechanics in Sport (ISBS), Canadian Sport Institutes or any other professional associations related to the teaching and practice of sport and exercise biomechanics, as well as professional certificates and ongoing continuing education related to teaching, scholarship and/or professional practice in the field.

Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials. In addition to teaching and creative professional activities, contributions to service through engagement on Faculty-related committees will be expected.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
