Description Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller for Fiscal Affairs and supervises two accountants. The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for monitoring the reconciliations and daily activities for the cash accounts, fixed assets, prepaid accounts and other key accounts for the month end and annual close. The position acts as liaison between Fiscal Affairs and Institutional Advancement and performs the accounting functions for pledges and contributions. The Senior Accountant supervises the monthly credit card expense reporting process and may provide training on credit card expense reporting. This position assists with providing annual audit documentation and other projects as assigned. This position may require additional hours to meet required deadlines.

Qualifications Qualifications

Bachelors degree required/masters preferred in accounting, finance or a related field. The successful candidate must have a minimum of four years accounting work experience with supervisory duties; extensive knowledge and usage of Microsoft Excel; strong understanding of accounting theory and considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. The Senior Accountant must possess intermediate knowledge level of all accounting functions and related internal controls, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets and inventory; strong analytical skills; auditing skills with the ability to research and reconcile difficult accounts. He/she must have demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of fiscal needs; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus; detail oriented and organized in work; ability to meet assigned deadlines; ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving and results; proactive and independent; flexible and enthusiastic. Must be able to work additional hours when needed to meet required deadlines. Preferred: An in-depth knowledge of Jenzabar EX and its applications and matriculating towards CPA certification; PowerPoint, Word and other Microsoft applications a plus.
