Job Description

The Department of Mathematical, Physical, and Engineering Sciences is seeking a non-tenure track adjunct faculty in mathematics. Multiple part-time adjunct instructors are needed for teaching college level mathematics courses for FALL 2023 and SPRING 2024. Courses may include College Algebra, College Algebra Recitation, and other undergraduate courses, which will be taught face to face or online synchronously. In addition, Dual Credit College Algebra classes will be taught on campus and at participating High Schools. Course times vary.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching any of these undergraduate courses in mathematics – College Algebra, College Algebra Recitation, and other mathematics courses as needed.

  • The adjunct faculty will prepare and teach the assigned course/s following a syllabus guideline in face to face or online formats as assigned by the department.

  • The adjunct faculty will maintain appropriate course related records on Blackboard (our Learning Management System), assign earned grades, report needed course related data to the department, and communicate with the departmental faculty and staff on course related issues as needed.

  • Teaching assignments may include day, night, or weekend classes.

Required Education and Experience:

  • An earned Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.

  • 18 graduate hours in Mathematics.

  • Experience and interest in teaching undergraduates in a college/university setting.

  • Prior college mathematics teaching experience and experience with Blackboard, our Learning Management System.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Working towards (ABD) or has earned Ph.D. in Mathematics, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Broad training in mathematics.

  • Interest in active and collaborative learning, and the use of instructional technology for face to face and online courses.

  • Experience with non-traditional commuter university setting.

  • Experience with a culturally diverse student body.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff, ability to respond promptly to queries from students, faculty, and staff.

  • Excellent (1) oral and written communication skills and (2) presentation skills.
