Job Overview

The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering membrane research group is looking for a self-motivated postdoctoral researcher to join us. This postdoc position is funded by the Dr. George J. Rieveschl, Jr. Endowment for the Eminent Scholar Chair in Membrane Science and Technology. The research focus will be on polymer synthesis and modification for electrolyte membrane development for batteries, electrolyzers, and/or ion separations. The candidate should have a background in organic synthesis, material characterization, membrane fabrication, and membrane test. The candidate will also collaborate with researchers of inorganic nanomaterials in developing organic-inorganic composite ion conducting membranes. The initial appointment is for one year, with the potential for extension depending on regular progress evaluation and continuation of funding.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
Minimum RequirementsA Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering or in a closely related field.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Attention to details.
  • Training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis are essential to the successful candidate.
  • Experience in writing proposals and project management experience are pluses.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with researchers from different fields.
  • Ability to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a senior scholar.
