Responsibilities

Visiting Assistant Professor Dance Academic Year 2023

The Johnson C. Smith University Dance Program seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance to teach a full-time load of courses for various levels, advise students, set choreography, and recruit majors for the program. Position is expected to begin August 2023.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Experience teaching African Diasporic Dance forms.
  • Teach all levels of Modern technique and either Hip-hop, Jazz or Dance in World-Cultures as well as research based writing and creative processes within the arts.
  • Co-directing and choreographing for program Dance Concerts as well as local travel for student performances.
  • Knowledge and ability to integrate technology in the classroom.
  • Teach and assess a broad range of levels in techniques for Dance majors, minors, and non-major Dance classes.

  • ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Teach 12-16 hours of courses per semester.
  • Advise students within the Dance major, and Dance minor.
  • Participate in Department, College, and University meetings and committees.
  • Engage in recruiting activities for the major and minor programs.
  • Participate in campus and community events.
  • Assist in program assessments and curriculum planning.
  • Qualifications

    Terminal degree in Dance (MFA or PhD). 2 years of recent and successful teaching experience in higher education.
