Job Description:


**This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week.


BASIC FUNCTION:


The Financial Aid counselor is responsible to an Associate Director of Financial Aid and shall function in accordance with both the office and the University policies and procedures. Main areas of responsibility include customer service and financial aid file review and awarding.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Counsel students and parents with regard to areas of financial aid, including: applications, procedures, awarding, reporting requirements and deadlines for eligibility of various programs.
  • Compare information on the FAFSA to the tax forms. Request additional documentation for any data items requiring clarification. Perform recalculation of records when necessary. Follow verification procedures for all records.
  • Prepare and verify all files within a specific caseload of students for the awarding process.
  • Verify status of all student housing and enrollment (full-time or part-time).
  • Responsible for requesting and reviewing all required documents relating to Professional Judgement
  • Participate in professional development activities and share information in staff training.
  • Compose and prepare emails, answer telephone, greet and assist students in the office.
  • Assist in all aspects of student employment including preparation and processing of work authorization forms, W-4 forms, and I-9 immigration forms.
  • Assist in coordinating the summer student employment program, working with summer supervisors and Residence Life Staff
  • Prepare and format reports on student employment activity regularly

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Assist with all other functions of the office and related duties as requested by the Director and Associate Directors of Financial Aid.

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.



Requirements:


A Bachelor's degree is required. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required with the ability to work effectively with students and parents. Must be able to work as part of an office team. Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings, as necessary, to meet position responsibilities. 1 year of financial aid experience and knowledge of PowerFaids preferred.
