The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University is recruiting for a faculty member at the Associate Professor or full Professor rank to serve as the Director of the Educational Innovation Institute (EII) under the direction of MCG's Academic Affairs. The mission of MCG EII is to champion excellence and innovation in health sciences and medical education. The EII enhances student learning, student research, and faculty teaching by focusing on collaborative educational research and educator career development, spanning undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. The selected faculty member reports to the MCG Vice Dean for Medical Education.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an EII strategic plan that aligns with the mission and priorities of MCG, and its stakeholders. 10%
  • Inspire and facilitate the reframing of educational problems and challenges to meet the needs of today's medical students and educators. 10%
  • Collaborate with the Academic Affairs Office, curriculum committees, and departments to support medical student research. 20%
  • Provider leadership and guidance to leadership & senior staff regarding the most recent and promising evidenced-based educational practices that could be adapted to increase educational impact. 10%
  • Supervise and mentor EII research faculty and other educational researchers to build research and scholarship capacity that will accelerate research innovation and dissemination. 10%
  • Support the professional development of medical school educator faculty through the faculty development Educational Research Track (ERT) Fellowships. 10%
  • Enable the EII research faculty and staff team to work towards collaborative publication and presentation of curricular & programmatic innovations that enhance institutional reputation in this field. 10%
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other MCG campuses statewide to facilitate educational research, scholarship, and innovation. 10%
  • Supervision and performance evaluation of EII staff and faculty. 10%
  • Other duties as assigned by the MCG Vice Dean.


Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in health professions education, psychology or a related field, and/or MD degree
  • Track record of advanced training and career experience in educational research
  • Ten years of experience in medical/health professions and on education research
  • Visionary leadership ability and strong team management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic/tactical leadership toward achieving measurable outcomes
  • Experience in research faculty mentoring and career development
  • Expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research design and methods
  • Expertise in educational research project management (e.g. as PI, leading cooperative networks, etc.)
  • Knowledge of one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS or SAS)
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.


Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia.
