Job Summary

The Fulbright team seeks a Specialist to support and promote the program’s brand, ensuring consistency of marketing communication across different digital, print and media channels and in cooperation with different stakeholders.  The Specialist, Fulbright Brand Management will develop a marketing and publicity strategy that will raise public awareness of the Fulbright Program and demonstrate its relevance and value to U.S. and global communities. This goal will be achieved by highlighting Fulbright’s impact, innovations, and diversity of participants, alumni, and partner institutions.

Specialist will work closely with the Fulbright Program’s sponsor, the U.S. Department of State, to develop an operational framework that includes digital content development, branding, project management, budgeting, and video and print production. They will be supported by other members of the Fulbright communications team, including a social media manager and a communications strategist.

Essential Functions:

Designs and implements a robust, multi-channel annual brand strategy to raise Fulbright Program awareness and prestige. The strategy will highlight Fulbright impact on individuals, institutions, and the U.S., and bilateral relations. It will focus on storytelling through the use of Fulbright social media accounts, websites, earned and paid media, and video. It will also include specific outreach initiatives and campaigns.

Develops and maintains Fulbright’s brand system and ensures brand alignment across websites, external-facing communication materials, social media content and other aspects of digital and print presence.

Drives creative development, visual design, production, direction and distribution of key deliverables such as participant and U.S. institution profiles, infographics, animations, videos and other data visualization. For this purpose, engages and manages outside vendors and consultants.

Oversees a Social Media Manager on all aspects of Fulbright presence across social media channels, ensuring that our voice, tone and engagement are representative of the Program’s brand and standards.

In consultation with the program sponsor, designs and leads specific campaigns and initiatives which aim to highlight Fulbright’s engagement with key audiences and institutional partners such as Minority Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions and others.

Directs the collection and management of digital and video assets, data, and repositories of information about notable Fulbright participants and alumni.

Collaborates as a Communications Strategist on the development of relationships with key communications contacts in the higher education community, with strategic partners, and with the media. As a team, oversees formulation of press releases; promotion of Fulbright events and milestones and responses to press inquiries.

Leads creation and maintenance of databases and other repositories of information about the Program’s alumni, stakeholders, key contacts and other relevant content.

Responsible for complying with applicable contract and sponsor requirements and following all IIE policies and procedures.

The Institute of International Education (“IIE”) has a hybrid work environment that allows team members a combination of in-office work and telework at any of the locations listed above.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Master's degree in marketing, communications, project management or related programs preferred.

5-8 years of experience preferred.

Exceptional project management and organizational skills.

Must have proven experience with the design, development, and delivery of communications strategies aligned with sponsor/stakeholder needs from various sectors, such as academic, professional, corporate, government, NGO, etc.

Ability to interact with all levels of staff and external contacts is required along with possessing an innate sensitivity to cultural differences when working with people from other cultures.

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to clearly and effectively convey information to individuals or groups of people at all levels both inside and outside the organization.

Must possess strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to think and act proactively. Must have strong editing and proofreading skills.

Must have demonstrated graphic design sensibility, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and other design tools preferred.

Must possess an in‐depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective audiences.

Experience working with the U.S. higher education community preferred.

Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate, advise, and persuade on matters that are highly complex and sensitive in nature; Proven ability to manage complex programs.

In-depth knowledge of industry standards, systems and guidelines for selection processes and services.

Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop high-functioning teams.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Salary Range: $69,630 - $80,945. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, internal organizational equity, and geographic region.
