As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The research program of Dr. Ngwenya adds a bench-to-bedside-to-bench approach to traumatic brain injury research. In partnership with collaborators throughout UC College of Medicine, UC Health Medical Center, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Dr. Ngwenya’s research enterprise has far-reaching translational applications. The laboratory currently focuses on elucidating how spreading depolarizations, an abnormal brain electrical activity, contribute to outcomes after traumatic brain injury using rodent models of injury, viral-mediated approaches, behavioral testing, and immunohistochemistry. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, have strong written and oral communication skills, and work well with a team of diverse individuals.
