The College of Southern Maryland is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesEconomics faculty teach a wide range of first year and second year undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach 15 credit hours per semester and 30 credit hours per academic year of day, evening or weekend classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. There may be an opportunity to teach classes in the summer also. Faculty may be assigned to teach on any campus or center where CSM offers classes. The hired candidate may be asked to teach Early College, for the positions where this may apply. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development thorough participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
DUTIES AND STANDARDS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Teach 30 credits of courses per contract year in the Economics disciplineTeach a range of courses that may include morning, day, evening, weekend or online, in an accelerated format. Opportunities may exist to teach in summerDesign assignments that incorporate students’ program of study and connect to the Economics disciplineEngage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approachesMeet with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college studentsIncorporate culturally relevant pedagogies into the teaching and learning processDemonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writingDemonstrated ability to read and interpret informationDemonstrated ability to deliver instruction to diverse student populations, with varied levels of learning and preparationKnowledge and use of student engagement strategies that support completion and student success goalsDemonstrated experience providing feedback students can use to improve their performanceExperience developing or using Open Education Resource (OER) materials as an instructional toolMaintain an ongoing program of professional development and participate in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences and activitiesMastery of appropriate computer operation skills Minimum Education and TrainingMaster’s degree in Economics or closely related field, with 18 graduate credit hours in Economics coursework RequiredPREFERRED: One year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level, that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness, preferably at the community college level.PREFERRED: Two years of professional experience in Economics or a closely related field required.Ability to use word processing, basic Internet applications, and basic database navigationAbility to use an educational enterprise, learning management system such as MyLearning to support and facilitate instructional deliveryAbility to teach in face-to-face, web, web-hybrid, and hy-flex formats.Experience working with economics or related training activities or academies.
