Job Description:


POSITION: Full-Time Assistant Director, Center for Equity and Social Justice: Assistant Director; Lawrence Campus & Community Relations; 37.5 hours/week; Non-Unit Professional Position; Lawrence Campus; Grant Funded Position


SUMMARY: The Assistant Director, Center for Equity and Social Justice's primary role is to serve as a point of representation and liaison for the college's communities and partners. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Chief Officer, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as the Vice President of Lawrence Campus and Community Relations, to ensure adherence to NECC's vision and values, with a focus on student success, equity, and social justice; community building, with an emphasis on English-language learners, immigrant professionals, and adult learners; and fostering collaboration with regional partners and internationally. This person will interact effectively with non-profit organizations, community leaders, elected officials, and community members to build and maintain strategic partnerships in the Merrimack Valley region and with international partners to ensure that education, outreach, and referral outcomes are met. The director will also work strategically with other areas of the college, including but not limited to the Center for Adult Education, Academic Centers, Corporate and Community Education, and The Center for Academic Innovation and Professional Development. This person will work with community members to build and maintain strategic partnerships in the Merrimack Valley area to make sure that goals for education, outreach, and referral are met.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Chief Officer, Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Creates policies and programs to support the implementation of diversity and inclusive excellence throughout the college and the communities that NECC serves.
  • Leads the Center for Equity and Social Justice's advisory board meetings, including but not limited to creating agendas, tracking, and overseeing the cross-campus Strategic Plan implementation.
  • Create policies leading to the expansion of the Programa Internacional de Educación Superior (PIéS Latino)
  • Create and develop new community partnerships with local businesses, and other community-based organizations and local companies to create new partnerships to recruit foreign-trained college students and professionals who can assist in providing equity based educational and workforce training skills to students.
  • With the support of the Center for Adult Education, MassHire and other collaborators, seeks funding opportunities to further develop PIéS into a multi-tier program that assists immigrant professionals with English, career coaching, and workforce development.
  • Planning, designing and organizing the NECC Dominican Cultural Immersion Program trip in collaboration with the Center for Professional Development staff and Dominican Republic partners. Oversee the entire process, from program design, outreach including independent programmatic decision making.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Advancement to identify federal and state grants, as well as other sources of outside funding, to support Center for Equity and Social Justice projects.
  • Lead teams in the development and implementation of college-wide initiatives and equity-focused programming for students, staff and the communities we serve including, but not limited to, spearheading monthly activities, such as: the Hispanic Heritage Month, the White Funds Presentation Series, La Feria Internacional del Libro de Lawrence, and other community-based events. (this is not meant to be an exhaustive list)
  • Develop and create a procedure/process for the expansion of Center for Adult Education Center by enhancing pathways between the NECC Haverhill and Lawrence Campuses and external partnerships such as: the Essex County Sheriff's Department-NECC pre- and post-released adults from the criminal justice system in continuing their education at NECC.
  • Create and develop outreach procedures and materials about the Center for Equity and Social Justice and NECC in general for distribution on the website, in workshops, via social media, and at events.
  • Enhance and develop NECC's presence on Spanish radio to promote the college and engage the communities we serve.
  • Oversee the outreach, recruitment and assessment activities provided to potential students, their families and partners in the Dominican Republic to assist those moving to the USA to attend NECC credit and noncredit programs.
  • Participates in college-wide committees as assigned.
  • Represents CESJ at community committees, boards, and events.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.
  • Strong ability to lead, plan, and develop policies.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report on data.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Able to work in the evenings and on weekends on occasion, and have the willingness to travel throughout the area.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, including the ability to communicate respectfully and sensitively with people from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master's degree preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Working knowledge of English language learners and/or foreign-trained professionals
  • Experience leading social justice and equity projects
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population

Additional Information:


SALARY: Anticipated starting salary range is $70,000 - $75,000 annually with complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits.
