Team Overview
Data Solutions resides within the broader Berkeley IT Campus Applications & Data unit, which ensures that the University's mission-critical applications and data are aligned, designed, integrated, and managed together. Data Solutions consists of Engineering & Integration Services, responsible for data integration and architectural considerations across campus applications, as well as the Data & Analytics team, responsible for campus-wide analytics and reporting. These are exciting areas that will experience growth and the need for innovation as the campus develops the governance, services and culture that support data as a critical campus asset.

Responsibilities

UC Berkeley's Engineering and Integration Services (EIS) seeks an Integrations Software Engineer who applies broad knowledge of system, software, data, and integration concepts, best practices, and principles as well as of current and emerging applicable technologies to integrate data from the campus' major systems of record with ancillary applications. You will develop APIs in Java + Spring Boot, as well design integrations that rely on streaming technologies. You'll need to exhibit solid skills in oral and written communication, requirements elicitation, code development & deployment, testing & quality assurance, and documentation.


Required Qualifications
  • Advanced skills associated with data integration design, modification, implementation, and deployment, including object-oriented programming and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Advanced experience with the Spring Boot Java framework.
  • Advanced experience with common programming tools.
  • Intermediate experience with RESTful web service frameworks-Apache CXF preferred.
  • Intermediate experience with Java Messaging-Apache ActiveMQ or Amazon SQS preferred.
  • Intermediate experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
  • Demonstrated skills in secure software development.
  • Demonstrated Git software repository skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in behavior & performance testing and test planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how integrations can support them.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated broad problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Intermediate proficiency with the Apache Camel integration framework.
  • Beginning proficiency with Ruby on Rails and Javascript.
  • Experience with serverless cloud computing services, such as AWS Lambda.
  • Experience with patching and deploying cloud resources, and with monitoring cloud resource activity.
  • Experience with data streaming technologies, such as Apache Kafka or Amazon Kinesis.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $90,000-$115,000
