Job Summary:

The Director of Student Retention and Success works with departments across the institution in the development and ongoing improvement of retention efforts. The Director oversees retention efforts, including regularly monitoring and utilizing data to identify risk factors for students from onboarding through degree completion and developing communications and interventions in coordination with academic divisions and student service areas.

Essential Job Functions:

Oversees the establishment and maintenance of effective systems for monitoring and assessing student support and retention practices and outcomes. Utilizes institutional data and leads focus group discussions to identify top barriers to student success, both institutionally and by population, and works with other departments to improve processes and develop success strategies. Develops online student onboarding tools, including written and video guides, in conjunction with other departments, to assist students in identifying support services, both academic and basic needs. Develops and distributes communications to students around milestones for completion from concurrent through graduation. Promotes and educates employees and students on Complete College America best practices for retention (e.g. use of academic maps, 15 to Finish, Even One Semester, etc.) Effectively leads and supervises SSOC staff, including but not limited to setting expectations and evaluating performance. Administers the departmental budget. Assists academic success coach, as needed, with student contacts and meetings on early alerts and other retention strategies. Assists academic advisors, as needed, with contacting students who have not reenrolled for program completion. Provides high quality seminars and workshops to students, both on site and through online instructional materials, including education regarding time management and organizational skills, study skills, and assistance with task analysis. Works with divisional administration and faculty to develop, maintain, and deliver tutoring and/or student success workshops to be delivered in the SSOC or individual classrooms as requested. Generates tutor schedule prior to each term, maintains schedule throughout each semester, maintains updated contact list of tutors, and manages tutor absences. Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience:

Minimum of five years working in higher education Minimum of two years teaching and/or training experience. Experience working in both collaborative/team environments and in positions that require individualized work with minimal supervision and/or supervision of others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to develop, implement, and assess best practices in tutoring for both individuals and small groups. Skill in listening to issues, synthesizing information, and reaching sound conclusions while maintaining composure when faced with difficult situations. Skill in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing to a diverse audience and adapting communication style to that audience. Knowledge of student resources, referrals, and services, and ability to network effectively in order to forge strong stakeholder relationships that maximize retention efforts. Ability to relate to a diverse population and to identify and implement strategies for equitable outcomes. Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail. Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate action, resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes. Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to a multicultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively with all students, faculty, staff and community partners. High degree of initiative to work independently and also collaborate in a team environment. Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook). Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism. Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior. Preferred Qualifications:

    Internal Candidates
Master’s degree in education, social work, or human services, or a master’s degree with relevant experience in higher education. Demonstrated experience in using data to drive program improvement.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work flexible hours to include some nights and weekends. Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms. Physical Requirements:

Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking, and listening. Duties require extensive use of computers, telephones, and other office equipment. Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
