Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)

Pay Grade MR09

The Tickle College of Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is searching for a Microsoft Windows IT Administrator to be a member of the EECS IT staff. This position is responsible for administering the Microsoft Windows servers and workstations in the EECS department. Under the supervision of senior staff, the administrator installs, configures, maintains, and secures departmental services including, but not limited to, configuration management via Microsoft Intune, Active Directory Group Policy, remote desktop and virtual desktop infrastructure services, and Hyper-V virtualization. The EECS IT help desk staff relies on this position to provide level II support for Microsoft Windows. Independent thinking and decision-making are essential in this position.


    Administering desktop and server systems to support departmental operations, research, and teachingMaintaining, automating, and testing installation procedures and configuration settings for Windows desktop and server systemsMonitoring systems for health, availability, and security statusTroubleshooting hardware, operating system, networking, security, and application software issuesAnalyzing and designing complex engineering software environments for Windows operating systemsEvaluating and identifying server and workstation requirements to facilitate the quoting process with vendorsTracking EECS IT help desk tickets to ensure timely and accurate responsesTraining of EECS IT help desk and IT administratorsAdvising faculty, researchers, students, and staff on IT related questions and problems

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related scientific and/or engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Five years of system administration experience with recent versions of Windows ServerIn-depth knowledge of PC-based computer hardware and software Knowledge of computer security principles and best practicesKnowledge of virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Azure Virtualization, or VMWareSkills in Windows system administration procedures and practices, including configuring and securing workstation and server systemsSkills in a scripting language such as PowerShell, Bash, Perl, or PythonSkills in configuration management using Microsoft Intune or Active Directory Group PolicyExcellent written and oral communications skillsAbility to train others in IT-related tasks and proceduresAbility to learn new IT systems and processes and stay current on IT- related best practices and security requirementsThe successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in the United States. 

    Previous technical support experience in an academic environmentCertification in Microsoft technologies such as MCSE or newer role- based certificationCertification in computer security such as Security+
