Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position are managing daily law enforcement and security operations of the College's Public Safety Department; supervising and evaluating staff officers as instructed by the department's command staff; scheduling all staff personnel and overseeing round-the-clock shift activities at all campuses; ensuring all officers are trained, certified and equipped in accordance with SC laws and TTC policies and directives; preparing and checking department reports; ensuring enforcement and compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as college rules/regulations within a sound ethical criminal and civil framework; executing orders from superiors; directly supervising staff officers; and effectively serving as Assistant Director with delegated authority to act in the absence of the department Director. This position also performs administrative duties as assigned. This position is subject to working rotational shifts (24/7) at different TTC campuses. Serves as a "duty" or "on-call supervisor" as assigned. Applicants with military experience must submit a copy of their DD214 with their application.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience. Valid SC Driver's license also required. Ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree and (5) five years supervision, current SC criminal justice academy certification in Basis Instructor Development (BID), Firearems and Patrol Rifle Instructor. Preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field and two (2) years work experience in law enforcement, including one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; or an associate degree and four (4) years of work experience in law enforcement to include one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of supervision, or 20 years law enforcement experience with five (5) years of command-level experience. Ideal candidate will be a graduate of SC Criminal Justice Academy and currently certified as a police officer with the State of SC. Supervisory ability, courteous, temperamentally well-controlled, neat in appearance. Working knowledge of modern police methods and procedures, ability to prepare and check reports, and testify in court. Working knowledge of state, county, and municipal law and all college rules and regulations, and ability to instruct officers. Must be able to deal firmly, but courteously with the public, and react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation. Computer literate and proficient with RMS. Must independently schedule department activities, respond to incidents on campus, and request outside assistance as needed. Expected to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Must be on campus for prolonged periods of time during hurricanes and other disasters. Subject to recall at any time. Subject to working rotational shifts (24/7) at different campuses as needed.
