Position Summary::

The Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama invites applications for full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor faculty positions. The number of positions will vary depending on the needs of the College. Candidates must hold a research doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Nursing or a related field. Candidates with DNP’s cannot be considered for tenure-track positions. This Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position is a 12-month position. We are seeking individuals with clinical experience that prepares them to provide classroom instruction in our undergraduate and/or graduate programs. The primary responsibility will be to provide face-to-face classroom instruction at the undergraduate level. Expertise in medical-surgical nursing or adult health is preferred; however, qualified applicants with clinical expertise in other areas may be considered. Although our graduate programs are offered via online instruction, this is not a distance-based position. Candidates will be expected to be onsite to fulfill teaching responsibilities and attend in-person faculty meetings. In addition to classroom instruction, expectations of the position may include: • Attend meetings and participate in shared governance • Evaluate and develop curriculum for the college • Serve as an academic adviser for undergraduate students • Serve on college or university committees • Serve as a faculty advisor for DNP student projects • Serve as a chair or committee member for EdD or PhD students • Engage in service activities for the university, community, and/or the profession.
Candidates for consideration as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor should demonstrate potential for strong teaching and scholarship (e.g., publication of peer-reviewed journal articles, presentations at national or international conferences, grant funding). Candidates with a history of teaching and scholarship, as well as those with PMHNP certification, will be given preference. The Capstone College of Nursing has over 2,400 students enrolled in programs leading to BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD degrees. In addition to our traditional BSN program, we offer a distance-based RN-to-BSN program. The College’s Master of Science in Nursing is ranked #11 nationally in Best Online Nursing Programs by the U.S. News and World Report. We offer innovative baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs. Program offerings include: one of the only online Joint Nursing Science PhD programs in the nation offered in collaboration with The University of Alabama in Huntsville; a Doctor of Nursing Practice program; a Master’s of Science Nursing program with Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner tracks and dual degree options, and a Nurse Administrator track. All graduate courses are taught in a distance-accessible format with on-campus intensive experiences. The Capstone College of Nursing is designated a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence for advancing the science of nursing education. Research doctoral degree in nursing or a related field is required. FNP or PMHNP certification is required for those who teach in our NP programs. An Alabama RN license, compact RN license, or ability to obtain an RN license is required. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.
