Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Physical Therapy has strong administrative support, excellent teaching and clinical facilities, and attracts top quality students. We are housed in the College of Allied Health Sciences and maintain strong interprofessional relationships with faculty and students in other departments (Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology, Physician Assistant, Nutrition Science, Addictions and Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Health Services and Information Management). Five well-equipped research labs are maintained by the department and existing PT faculty are in place to collaborate on projects including musculoskeletal modeling, postural control and sensorimotor processing, blood and muscle analysis, pediatric rehabilitation strategies, and more. The department’s 15 full-time faculty members all contribute to the accredited three-year Doctor of Physical Therapy program with 30 students admitted annually. The department also operates two clinical practices, ECU Physical Therapy faculty practice and the pro bono interprofessional Student Run Clinic.

East Carolina University is located in Greenville, North Carolina. Greenville is the cultural, educational, medical, and economic center of Eastern North Carolina. The Greenville/Pitt County area has a population of approximately 175,000 and is one hour from the Research Triangle to the west and the Crystal Coast to the east. East Carolina University (28,000 students) is part of a vibrant health care community including ECU Health, a level 1 trauma center and 1400+ bed health system serving more than 1.4 million people in 29 eastern North Carolina counties. The ECU College of Allied Health Sciences has strong working relationships with the ECU College of Nursing, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, College of Health and Human Performance, College of Engineering and Technology, and East Carolina Diabetes and Obesity Institute. Job Duties :

Teaching and Advising· Course development and delivery in the areas of adult neurologic and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation· Coordination with other faculty in teaching and curriculum development· Advising of DPT students including supervision during clinical experiences· Mentoring DPT students in completion of capstone research projects

Research and Scholarly Activity· Actively engage in research and scholarly activity, in collaboration with other faculty· Disseminate research findings through appropriate means (e.g., scientific publications, presentations at professional meetings)

Service· Serve on committees at various levels of academia (department, college, university).
· Maintain membership in APTA and provide service to the profession through committees, leadership positions, etc.

Provide PT clinical services to patients in ECU Physical Therapy Clinic

Minimum Education/Experience :

· Must hold a DPT degree.· Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in North Carolina· Must have a minimum of three years of physical therapy clinical experience· Must have working knowledge of the NC Physical Therapy Practice Act and related laws and regulations affecting the profession of physical therapy· Must have experience mentoring DPT students in clinical education experiences, research experiences, and/or community service learning· Must demonstrate strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in North Carolina.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

· Experience with teaching and curricular development in a DPT education program.· Have at least five years of clinical practice.· Possess a clinical specialist certification (ABPTS) in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation or neurologic rehabilitation.· Experience supervising DPT students during clinical experiences.· Certification as a Credentialed Clinical Instructor through the APTA.· Demonstrate familiarity with learning technologies (e.g., Canvas) to engage students in the learning process.
· Experience with electronic health records preferable EPIC
