The Department of Sociology invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor position with a focus on family, gender, and research methods to begin August 16, 2023, contingent on the availability of funding.

The Department of Sociology is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Dakota. It offers a B.A. and minor in Sociology, available as on-campus and online degree options. The department is in the process of revitalizing its Master’s program.

Established in 1883, the University of North Dakota is the oldest research university in North Dakota. It is the state’s flagship university and is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as having high research activity. Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach a 5/4 load during the academic year. Courses will include family, sociology of gender, and sociological research methods and will be a mix of online and on-campus teaching.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate coursework in a variety of modalities.

Required Competencies

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
• Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability and willingness to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Sociology.
• Ability and willingness to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in Sociology by August 15, 2023.
• Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated teaching and mentoring effectiveness at the undergraduate level
• Experience with the development and instruction of online courses
• Expertise in family, gender, and sociological research methods
• Experience with course assessment
