Overview

The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) at Princeton University is seeking a dynamic individual to join the school as a Program Manager for the newly-formed CriminalJustice@SPIA initiative. The individual will work with several faculty members on projects related to crime, violence, policing, and the criminal justice system.

 

The ideal candidate would be able to take on a wide range of tasks, including budgeting, fundraising and grant management, event planning, recruitment and hiring of program staff, background research, editing and assistance with reviews of the literature. They will also assist with other tasks such as assisting with IRB applications, writing grants, gathering or inputting data, or putting together FOIA requests.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • The position develops and implements the programs operational budget, in close collaboration with faculty. This includes management of fund accounts from several sources, which are earmarked for specific purposes. The position advises the faculty on current spending levels and available funds, and is responsible for careful and appropriate financial management. The position monitors spending and provides regular, timely analysis and multi-year projections of the available funds.
  • Provides programmatic support to the faculty directors and coordinates the research initiatives and activities to establish and achieve common goals and milestones. Participates in the projects research as necessary and when appropriate by doing some editing, writing, background research and reviews of the literature.
  • The position develops budgets for new research grants, compiles grant application materials, drafts contractual arrangements with collaborating institutions, tracks expenditures, supervises subcontracts and agreements with outside institutions, submits requests for no-cost extensions, coordinates production of interim and final reports donor reporting for grants. Funding partners include both governmental institutions and nonprofit foundations.   • Plan, coordinate, organize, and execute all activities of the Initiative, monitoring financial and scheduling constraints, including lecture series, conferences and workshops, research meetings, on-site and off-site events. Manage all aspects of events including catering, transportation arrangements, hotel accommodations, dining arrangements, audio-visual and remote technology, media outreach, posting and audience recruitment, and event registration.
  • The position assists faculty affiliates with hiring. staff, predoctoral, casual hourly staff or student research assistants as needed.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Relevant skills, competence, and ability to work with colleagues across disciplines;
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management, financial reporting, procurement and financial oversight;
  • Professional communication skills with internal and external audiences via e-mail, phone, and in writing;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with exceptional judgment and discretion;
  • Strong organizational abilities, and capacity to manage and prioritize multiple activities;
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs particularly MS Excel, and ability to learn new software applications;
  • Capacity to work independently.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background knowledge on topics related to the criminal justice system is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in managing grants;
  • Experience in supervision and/or human resource management;
  • Management experience at an institution of higher education

NOTE:  This is a five-year term position with the possibility of renewal.
