Position Summary::

The Department of Gender and Race Studies seeks a non-tenure track renewable contract instructor. This is a full time teaching appointment requiring extensive experience in Sociology, African American Studies, and Women’s Studies. The appointment is for three years, and may be renewed depending on need, funding, and performance.

The Department of Gender and Race Studies at The University of Alabama is seeking an instructor to fill a renewable instructor position in Sociology, African American Studies, and Women’s Studies, beginning August 16, 2023. The instructorship is non-tenure-earning, but is renewable based on need, funding and performance. Courses to be taught include Introduction to Women’s Studies, Introduction to African American Studies, Sociology courses, and Undergraduate and Graduate Interdisciplinary Special Topics courses in the research fields of Sociology, African American Studies, or Women’s Studies. Ph.D. in Sociology, African American Studies, and Women’s Studies or a related field is strongly preferred. Master’s degree required. Evidence of teaching excellence is required. The Gender and Race Studies Department at the University of Alabama was formed in 2009 when the programs in Women’s Studies and African American Studies were brought together in one academic department. Women’s Studies at the University of Alabama is one of the oldest Women’s and Gender Studies programs in the southeastern United States, founded in the mid-1970s. Coursework in African American Studies has been a part of the University of Alabama since 1970. The Department of Gender and Race Studies currently offers an undergraduate minor and an M.A. in Women’s Studies and an undergraduate minor and a major in African American Studies. Sociology as a minor is to be included in the Department program of courses from Spring, 2024.
