Chapman University seeks applications for a one-year, non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor of Teacher Education in the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies starting August 1, 2023 and ending May 31, 2024. The Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies, whose educator preparation programs are accredited nationally by CAEP, state accredited by CTC, and regionally accredited by WASC, offers undergraduate and graduate (master’s, specialist, PhD) programs in integrated educational studies, leadership, teacher education, disability studies, school counseling, and school psychology. The Teacher Education program includes integrated pathways at the undergraduate to graduate level, including a MA in Curriculum and Instruction (MACI) specifically designed for students to obtain their bachelor's degree, master's degree, and California dual teaching credentials (general education and special education) in five years of full-time study. The Master of Arts in Teaching: Multiple Subject and Secondary Education (MAT) programs allow the candidate to obtain both the general education credential and the master’s degree through an integrated program of coursework, fieldwork, and student research. The MA Special Education (MA SPED) program allows the candidate to obtain either the mild/moderate or extensive support needs Education Specialist credential plus the master’s degree. Both the MAT and MA Special Education program include integrated (undergraduate to graduate) pathways that reduce the candidate’s time and cost in the graduate program. Qualifications

Required qualifications: •Earned doctorate by start of employment in education or related field from an accredited institution is required. •Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching History/Social Science in diverse grade 6-12 public secondary settings. •Current valid state credential/certificate or NBCT applicable to the teaching of History/Social Science at the secondary level. •Current knowledge of the adopted California P-12 content standards, frameworks and accountability systems. •Demonstrated ability to build beneficial and productive working relationships within the university and public education communities. •Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in education and must be willing to contribute to the University Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plan. Desired qualifications: •Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. •Experience teaching a wide range of grades at the secondary (6-12) level•Demonstrated knowledge of current California TPE and CalTPA requirements for teacher education candidates. •Familiarity with state and national standards for the profession and integration of teacher performance standards into teacher preparation curricula. •Experience with development and implementation of innovative teaching practices. •Experience with development and implementation of educational programs in collaboration with local communities, K-12 schools, and/or community colleges. •Ability to design and implement program and course assessment tools. •Expertise and facility with technology, including remote instruction. •Experience serving and/or teaching in underserved communities. •Active involvement in professional organizations. •Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach, advise, and mentor students in our undergraduate and graduate educational studies and teacher preparation programs. This is a one-year, full-time, non-tenure track position that requires work to be performed in the State of California and has in-person teaching responsibilities and required on-campus availability at Chapman’s Orange campus. Responsibilities include: •Teach eight courses (24 credits total) in the 23/24 academic year (August - May), advise and mentor students. •Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to teacher preparation with specific emphasis in History/Social Science in secondary settings. Current course descriptions are located at: https://catalog.chapman.edu •Actively contribute as an integral member of Attallah College faculty in the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of our academic and degree programs. •Provide academic advising and professional mentorship to students.•Perform service to the unit, college, university, profession, and wider community as expected of a non-tenure track faculty member.
