The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, Penn Vet Working Dog Center (PVWDC) and Section of Working Dog Science and Sports Medicine invites qualified individuals to apply for a 1-year Lecturer position in Working Dog Science and Sports Medicine. The position is anticipated to begin in July 2023. Lecturers in Working Dog Science and Sports Medicine have a 42-week clinical commitment with approximately 50% of the time dedicated to clinical sports and performance medicine and 50% dedicated serving as the medical director at the PVWDC. Responsibilities include clinical teaching, clinical service, resident mentoring, and overseeing the medical care and policy of dogs in the PVWDC. The successful candidate will enjoy a wealth of opportunities in providing clinical service, leadership within the PVWDC, and participating in sports medicine clinical research in a highly collaborative and productive environment.

The Section of Working Dog Science and Sports Medicine employs 1 dual-boarded American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) and American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) clinician-scientist. There is currently 1 resident enrolled in a ACVSMR residency training program. More than 30 American and European Diplomates from various speicalty Colleges work within the School's hospital and support the Section of Working Dog Science and Sports Medicine. The PVWDC is an internationally recognized research, training, and education center for detection dogs. The staff of the PVWDC includes trainers, researchers, and support staff to assist in managing the approximately 30 dogs in the program. The Section of Working Dog Science and Sports Medicine collaborates with intramural units such as the Perelman School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as well as a variety of extramural collaborators at veterinary schools across the US and world, providing the successful applicant with excellent opportunities for professional growth and networking.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a veterinary degree, internship training, residency training in canine sports medicine, and are board eligible or board certified by the American or European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Preference will be given to candidates with previous or current experience working in an academic setting and with working dog experience in training, breeding, and preventive care management. PennHip certification and a research-based Master’s degree are desirable.

Candidates without US citizenship or permanent resident status will be required to obtain the necessary visas prior to receipt of any offer letters. Candidates requiring sponsorship should identify this on their application.

Salary is commensurate with professional and academic credentials and experience.
