Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry (www.chem.umass.edu) invites applications for a nine-month, full time, non-tenure track Lecturer position starting Fall semester 2023. The Lecturer will be expected to perform the duties of a lead instructor of General and/or Organic Chemistry courses, teaching lecture sections. This position will have a typical teaching load of 2 undergraduate lecture sections per semester. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal upon successful performance review. The candidate should have a strong commitment to outstanding teaching. A commitment to educational/professional development and service is strongly encouraged.

Qualified candidates must complete a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related area before the start date. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in joining a team of instructors dedicated to excellence in teaching using modern evidence-based pedagogical approaches, with an emphasis on inclusiveness and accessibility to support the success of a diverse student body.

Essential Functions

  • Teach General Chemistry and/or Organic Chemistry lecture.
  • Participate in ongoing departmental research activities or service.
  • Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the Department of Chemistry and College of Natural Sciences.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field before the start date.
