Position Summary

The high energy physics group at Michigan State University invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in experimental neutrino physics, particle astrophysics, or cosmology.

The Michigan State high energy physics program includes major efforts in neutrino physics centered on DUNE, T2K, and SBN (Profs. Kendall Mahn and Sophie Berkman), particle astrophysics with the IceCube and P-ONE neutrino telescopes and the HAWC and SWGO gamma ray observatories (Profs. Darren Grant, Tyce DeYoung, Kirsten Tollefson, and Nathan Whitehorn), and observational cosmology with the South Pole Telescope and CMB-S4 (Prof. Whitehorn).

The MSU group also benefits from extensive technical infrastructure and close connections to the high energy collider (ATLAS), astronomy and astrophysics, and nuclear physics (FRIB and NSCL) groups in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and to the Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research and the Department of Computational Math, Science, and Engineering.

The group is involved in a wide range of activities on these projects, including data analysis, machine learning, modeling and simulation, electronics and hardware development, and detector construction, and postdoctoral researchers may contribute to any or all of these areas. In addition to their research activities, postdoctoral associates will assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and with outreach and public engagement activities.

Candidates interested in any of these areas are encouraged to apply. Applications will be considered from individuals with a PhD in physics or a related field, with preference given to those with strong backgrounds in particle physics, astrophysics or cosmic ray physics. The group prides itself on providing a welcoming and supportive atmosphere to scientists of all backgrounds.
