Areas of Responsibility / Scope of Research

The Spencer laboratory is focused on understanding the immunobiology of eosinophils in health and within the context of allergic inflammatory diseases at mucosal surfaces, particularly as it relates to initiation and exacerbation of eosinophil-associated GI diseases. This position includes project development and bench research around the overarching topic of "Influences of tissue eosinophils on intestinal and lung immunity". Active ongoing projects in the Spencer laboratory explore functional phenotypes of intestinal tissue eosinophils, bidirectional interfaces between eosinophils and adaptive immunity, and deciphering systemic and local drivers of mucosal organ crosstalk in allergic inflammation. Studies involve parallel and integrative work using primary human cells, patient tissues, and mouse models of disease. The successful candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual who possesses excellent communication skills and thrives in a strongly collaborative research environment that includes both basic scientists and clinicians. A PhD or equivalent degree in Immunology, Cell biology, Molecular biology, or other related field is required.
